Industry: Fashion, D2C Retail
Service: Custom Ecommerce Development
Tools: Custom-built platform, proprietary CMS and admin panel
Situation
A new luxury womenswear and lifestyle brand was preparing to launch its D2C channel. The founders had a clear design language, a defined product philosophy, and strong opinions about how their brand should feel online. What they did not want was a template.
Standard ecommerce platforms would have allowed them to launch faster, but at the cost of brand fidelity. Every element, from the product discovery experience to how collections were presented, needed to reflect the brand identity rather than a platform default. The decision was made to build from scratch.
Problem Statement
For a brand entering the market at a premium positioning, the online experience is not a support channel. It is the primary brand touchpoint. A generic storefront would undercut the brand before a customer even reached a product page.
Beyond aesthetics, the business needed full operational control. Dependence on third-party plugins or platform limitations for managing products, content, navigation, orders, and customer data was not acceptable for a business that intended to own its entire customer relationship.
What We Built
A fully custom ecommerce platform was built from the ground up, with no reliance on WordPress, Shopify, or any third-party CMS.
Customer-facing features included:
- Collections and product catalogue with detailed product pages
- Wishlist, cart, and checkout with payment integration
- User account management including order history and profile
- Events section for brand activations and showcases
- Blog for editorial and brand content
- All policy and static pages
A complete admin panel was built alongside the storefront, giving the business full control over:
- Product and catalogue management including images, variants, and pricing
- Page content, navigation, header, and footer without developer intervention
- Order management, customer records, and enquiries
- Blog publishing and event listings
Every part of the platform, including what a customer sees and how the business manages it, was custom built. No plugin dependencies. No platform constraints.
Outcome
- Brand launched with a storefront that matched its design language without compromise
- Full content and catalogue control through a proprietary admin panel from day one
- No recurring platform licensing costs or third-party plugin dependencies
- Architecture built to scale with the brand as product lines and features expand
For brands where the online experience is a direct extension of brand identity, the choice of platform is a brand decision as much as a technology decision. Template platforms offer speed; custom platforms offer control. For a business where presentation is the product, control is not optional.
